Since I am using it to step onto, the mat was never centered aesthetically anyway since it was at the entrance to the shower. I have a second metal tension shower rod that is not fixed to the wall for use over the center of the tub/shower for drying hand washables and the bath mat when not in use -- any water drips into the tub/shower.

I don't reuse bath towels and the towels I use to dry aren't display towels.
