This is the minimum level protection you want in a shop filter. Does anyone do that and have success? Personally I cant see buying a helical head for a portable planer. This is by no means a low micron dust filtration option but I find that nearly all of the waste from a planer is larger chips and this pillow case does a fantastic job at holding it all. Do not use a vintage electrical or electronic item if its safety cannot be verified. Be aware that some of the Steel City planers have two sided cutters and some have four sided. Also with the cart I can fold er up and store it out of the way. Its not a one time investment due to the cost of the poor quality, non sharpenable replacement blades. With this kit, you won't need to buy separate collection or hose. Its by far a better review than what is under the tools on say, home depot. I've been doing the same thing with a spare dust collector bag instead of pillowcase. Or even just a pillowcase and a hose clamp! Proper dust collector with a particle/dust separator in front of it. well I can not go 220v in my shop no way no how at this point so I am stuck with 110v tools and this with the Byrd head is the best planer I could get that has the build quality to last.. is stable enough in design and lifespan wise to get parts it it does break and has support for other manufactures for replacement blades and cutter heads, yes it is big and expensive and if I was moving it from job site to job site then I might choose something smaller but for someone else in the situation I am and wanting a stable planer that will preform to the level of a bigger 220v planers then you cannot go wrong with this platform upgraded cutter-head or not, the wixey digital thickness gauge upgrade is also a must for me and I would never want to use the planer with out this addition as well, Jay, The planer actually blows that bag up noticeably stiffer than the leaf blower can. That is how I started out with mine but then I built a super dust deputy outfit with an old Grizzly 2 HP motor. I built a Thien Baffle over a 20g garbage can all on a mobile base and set the planer on top.
Hard to believe all of those statements are true.
I have gotten good life out of them IMO. If used or left in direct harsh sunlight the part has a higher probability of softening/warping.
All the junctions in the flexible hose and PVC are all slip connections.
I would say I couldnt feel any with the setup mentioned in this article. I haven't found much of a difference with the vacuum on or off, works about the same. I bought my joiner its a 8 PJ-882HH which is a phenomenal piece of equipment. Ive had my planer sitting on top of a junk dresser I found in the trash for about a year and a half now.
Here is a solution I came up with that works for me in my shop.

A shop vac will NOT pull enough volume of air to work with this part. Just slide it on and forget about it. Its hard to notice at first but here you can see the outfeed side of the melamine auxiliary bed. They can find them at Amazon often for less than the High Efficiency by RIDGID. The Delta benchtop screams like a banshee and is the loudest piece of equipment in my shop, including my CNC. Not a name brand, but is what I use. Consider how often you create dust and your shop space to determine how big of a container to use. Its quite expensive for a benchtop model. Looking strictly for benchtop. It works really really well. Without a melamine board in the bottom, I pretty much get zero snipe. If you reach for the board before it clears the cutters, you tend to lift it slightly, which will result in some snipe. I didnt take any exact measurements but I believe my dresser is about 5 feet long. Get your replacements here. Personally, I think tool review is a good thing. Then I had a bright idea: What if I wound some duct tape on the Chip Ejector, which would effectively enlarge the outside diameter?

I have a DW 375 planner and the fan was wore out, I replaced the fan but have had problems entry since, fan will blow out port but all of the chips are plugging up machine out side of the shroud assembly. Ive got about $650 in it after two years. Fit and finish of this part exceeded my expectations. Im one of those who pestered you about this writeup because I own a DW735. Is there a fan in the jointer that pushes the chips into the box under the planer? Ive never had any problems with the rollers not feeding the material through as they should with this setup. Do these not come with the trash can filter top any longer? Then gradually snipe returned on the infeed side of the cuts. Funny I was just looking at this model yesterday and almost pulled the trigger. However I recommend that you take care of that fool killer that protrudes from the back of your setup. Get dust around corners without compromising power or efficiency. Yet I see you have it in a garage setup much like my own. Should it happen, a couple rounds of tape on the 4" side of the coupling will improve the friction fit. (Amazon). Some day if I get a huge shop Ill have something more substantial, but for now it does what I want and is a great buy. I have used a shopvac with mine (had to make a hose coupler out of 100mph tape) it worked ok. The DW735 dust port will accommodate a 4" hose, but ejects chips through a 2-7/16" port.

This is the minimum level protection you want in a shop filter. Does anyone do that and have success? Personally I cant see buying a helical head for a portable planer. This is by no means a low micron dust filtration option but I find that nearly all of the waste from a planer is larger chips and this pillow case does a fantastic job at holding it all. That is how I started out with mine but then I built a super dust deputy outfit with an old Grizzly 2 HP motor. I built a Thien Baffle over a 20g garbage can all on a mobile base and set the planer on top.
Hard to believe all of those statements are true.
I have gotten good life out of them IMO. If used or left in direct harsh sunlight the part has a higher probability of softening/warping.
All the junctions in the flexible hose and PVC are all slip connections.

I bought my joiner its a 8 PJ-882HH which is a phenomenal piece of equipment. Ive had my planer sitting on top of a junk dresser I found in the trash for about a year and a half now.

The Delta benchtop screams like a banshee and is the loudest piece of equipment in my shop, including my CNC. Not a name brand, but is what I use. Consider how often you create dust and your shop space to determine how big of a container to use. Its quite expensive for a benchtop model. Looking strictly for benchtop. It works really really well. Without a melamine board in the bottom, I pretty much get zero snipe. If you reach for the board before it clears the cutters, you tend to lift it slightly, which will result in some snipe. I didnt take any exact measurements but I believe my dresser is about 5 feet long. Get your replacements here. Personally, I think tool review is a good thing. Then I had a bright idea: What if I wound some duct tape on the Chip Ejector, which would effectively enlarge the outside diameter?

I have a DW 375 planner and the fan was wore out, I replaced the fan but have had problems entry since, fan will blow out port but all of the chips are plugging up machine out side of the shroud assembly. Ive got about $650 in it after two years. Fit and finish of this part exceeded my expectations. Im one of those who pestered you about this writeup because I own a DW735. Is there a fan in the jointer that pushes the chips into the box under the planer? Ive never had any problems with the rollers not feeding the material through as they should with this setup. Do these not come with the trash can filter top any longer? Then gradually snipe returned on the infeed side of the cuts. Funny I was just looking at this model yesterday and almost pulled the trigger. However I recommend that you take care of that fool killer that protrudes from the back of your setup. Get dust around corners without compromising power or efficiency. Yet I see you have it in a garage setup much like my own. Should it happen, a couple rounds of tape on the 4" side of the coupling will improve the friction fit. (Amazon).
