That is exactly how it transitions on me as well. It's a jasmine dominated scent with loads of sweet citrus. Very fresh and very Chanel. I find the more time I have had with it the more I understand it and love it more. Needless to say I really wanted it to work on me.
Something, that could easily become my everyday scent. Maybe even better than the lemony Chance Eau Fraiche (the original Chance is my favorite so far). Grapefruit, which I generally don't like to wear, and jasmine, layered with powdery, metallic iris, are a very unpleasant combo for me. Its pretty refreshing. The opening is soft citrusy. Chanel Chance eau Vive is a nice and elegant perfume. Any more than that and you will suffocate people around you. They lack the joyful blast that opens this fragrance, but they're fresh and mildly sweet.
As time goes by it becomes pretty and floral, like a smell of delicate spring flowers, which is possibly the iris or jasmine. Then I actually started reading the reviews and realized that the problem that people see with this perfume is its price and the fact that it's justpleasant.
I was almost instantly in love with this. The base is musky, possibly even with a bit of dry sandalwood, somewhat sensual. It's a pleasant airy perfume, best in the Chance line. It's also very, very elegant, with that unmistakable Chanel vibe. It's long lasting with decent projection. Like all Chanel perfumes it develops. Big love.
Take a Chance take a Chance take a take a Chance Chance on longevity.
If you like Eau Premiere, you will like Eau Vive as well. I sprayed this on a card and my friend said it smells like "kindness". Not in my opinion.
:) Bravo, Chanel. I have tried wearing it and failed repeatedly.
There were simply other 'fumes I'd reach for, and it got to where I forgot I even had it in my collection.
Eau Vive on the other hand is, while undoubtedly part of the Chance family,as clear and translucent as if something created by Issey Miyake. Powdery, floral, musky & simply irresistible.
This doesnt seem to have Patch unlike most Chanel perfumes. Then, it started to dry down.
I don't know why this is not talked about as much as Eau Fraiche but I love this even more than Chance Eau Fraiche because its not rough around the edges as Eau Fraiche can sometimes be. Citruses, cedar and iris. It smells like very sweet Orange juice with sugar. Eau Fraiche too masculine? Of the entire chance line, I love this the best. Fresh, feminine, clean, a little woodsy but not too much, slightly powdery - just enough, and delicious enough to wear anywhere. It takes time to show itself. I've had this since it came out. Wanted it for myself as a keepers scent.
Initially, I hated it and had boxed it back up to return it to the store. It a great fresh, soapy grapefruit fragrance. I have a sample of it from Sephora and want to go back to buy a bottle of it. Very boring. (I didn't really like Chance Eau Tendre when I tried it in the past - too young and cakey sweet for me.) This ones a classic. The effect was akin to Benjamin Button: smells like a grandmother, then an auntie, then a sweet young lady.
Its bright, sexy and just my type of scent. So sad.
Chanel scents are rich & soft at the same time and utterly feminine and Chance Eau Vive does not disappoint.
Eau Frache is a bit woodier and Eau Vive has a distinct blood orange note. Like the entire Chance line, this is a heady, potent juice that expands around you and lingers for a long time on skin and clothes. This is my all time favorite perfume.
Classic chanel!! Eau Vive is simple and straightforward to me - grapefruit, citrus, slight powdery violets notes (but not dusty), and dries down to sort of a watery floral scent on my skin. thats my opinion any way.
Unfortunately, my favorite perfumes tend to start young then end sexy and grown. It was more than a year that I had this sample of chance eau vive and I was never eager to try it.back then I wasn't a Chanel girl.I also disliked citrus and woody scent but lately I'm loving any Chanel perfume I try so I had to give a go to eau vive.
Can't be without it! I think for me the grapefruit is just too strong. Its a shame to me the opening is what makes this unique but it goes to a skin scent and doesnt last at all . This is citrus-y, fresh, and feminine. Chanel Chance eau Vive is truely one of the weirdest fragrances I've ever come across and I will try to explain why. This is light but it smells wonderfully fresh and clean. Ends up as a slightly bitter citrus skin scent. I really like it. One of my most complimented clean out of shower non-complicated perfumes. I am picky and the only other thing I've smelled that smells this good is dolce and gabbana light blue. I dont mind citrusy perfume, even one of my most loved fragrance - Flora by gucci edp (currently wearing :), which is realy very citrusy, but i just dont get Eau Vive - it smells like man's colone, a harsh, sharp mans colone.
Very well-blended. Chanel has some fabulous marketing and some really nice perfumes. Its all I want to wear.
Vetiver - similarly as in Eau Fraiche - it sounds subtle here, keeps the powdered iris in check, not allowing the composition to be transformed into creamy soap, but Eau Vive does not take on typically male tones. And it lasts a good 6-8 hours. It's just like Dior's John Galliano to Raf Simons. Eau vive is breathtaking. It love how it dries down, very soft sweet citrus and floral. You can't go wrong with a bit of Chanel can you? The citrus adds to the jasmine making it sweet and so ever pretty. Very citrusy.
Uplifting at first but quickly settling to a lovely mixture of flowers and musk. It's excellent. Blood orange note is too much for me here. Chance Eau Vive by Chanel is a Floral Woody Musk fragrance for women. Eau Vive is very fresh even in its musk and wood dry down notes. It was love at first sight for me.. Smelled it at the chanel counter and it won me over. In the words of Coco Chanel herself, "In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different." The drydown was too masculine for my taste, with dry cedar and heavy vetiver drowning out the citruses. in the opening is heavy and huge citrus, bitter and sour grapefruit followed by lovely and sweet jasmine, then light woody and silky iris vibe in dry down, overall is clean fresh sweet and airy perfume, easy to wear for every day. I don't get much in the way of woods or musk. I'll try it again, but it looks like my brothers girlfriend, who loves anything from Chanel, has a 1.7 oz bottle coming to her.
I decided to try this in the cold as eau fraiche changes in the seasons with my body chemistry and this smells even better in the cold..it's gotten sweeter, the citrus is more present and the iris, jasmine, cedar and musk amp upthis is so good..I think I prefer to wear Eau Vive during the winter more than the summer and Eau Fraiche during the summer as that smells better on me during that season versus the winter. Nowadays, the EDTs are diluted to the point they are gone almost immediately.
Starts out a very citrus but mellows quickly into a nice smooth musky mellow scent. Every once in a while, the citruses would shine through, but it seemed like the various notes weren't quite meant for one another. Layered they are also beautiful. Sillage is strong. I am baffled at the reviews that say that this does not last. Fresh, crisp, sparklygreat for warm weather, or as a signature scent for everyday wear. Not good enough, Chanel !!!!! A lovely addition for any Chanel / Chance flanker collector. It's girly and lighthearted. I dont think of it as smelling like citrus, but maybe thats what others are describing. It is feminine and romantic.
I reach for it often, and even got another bottle in fear this could be discontinued too quickly, as it seems it doesn't get much love. If you like citrus fragrances then you have to try this, I think it's also totally unisex and would smell great on a guy. This light, inoffensive scent opens with a burst of citrus - mostly grapefruit with some slightly tart orange. Eau Vive is by far my favorite from this line. Also, the commercialbowling? Inadvertently after wearing it for a week, I'm enarmored even if it's not the most complex scent. I don't know why this doesn't get more love out of the line (especially over eau frache). So if you're from somewhere colder than the SUPER hot tropic of Sri Lanka, don't be afraid to get this.
Smells lovely in the bottle.
My favourite of all the Chance range.
The men's version. It lasts well, not a ' resprayer' to me and also the citrus I find to be quite dense, imagine overripe oranges and lemons just on the verge of turning/ almost on the border of decay and ' meaty', that for me is CEV. Then a couple of weeks ago I finally got the chance to purchase it - I will say just this: for me this is HAPPINESS in a bottle! They blend together and it's like they are very lightley sparkeled with some citrus. Unfortunately it isn't, to me it's pretty ordinary. Off-White Paperwork: A Quartet of Contrasts, Close Your Eyes, Relax, Breathe and Envision a Blue Light, Cacao In The Sun by Maison Tahit: Dipped Strawberries, WPC 2022 - Discovering Asafoetida with Galbanum Oil From Iran, A Brand New Victoria's Secret Fragrance: Bare, Givenchy Gentleman Eau de Parfum Reserve Prive, Chanel - Chance Eau Vive Eau De Toil (. Very disappointed. 2 years later, I'm finally halfway through my 100ml bottle and my hearts breaking a little. it's pretty and bright while it lasts but then even sticking my nose against my skin I get nothing. You just have to give it the right chance. Its a very universal perfume and you can't go wrong with it, but test first. its not for someone who wants to blend in and be quietly in the corner. I had it about to finish it and will not be repurchasing. This being the first scent by Olivier Polge after the retirement of his beloved father Jacques Polge, I must say I was pleasantly surprised. The most floral of chance series. It's a shame it's an EDT.
I will probably give it a try again someday because I want to test it on my skin. Wish it lasted longer on my skin, but it's so pleasant and happy making, I can forgive the performance.
Like some grocery store brand I used as a teenager. There is also a slight aquatic quality to the opening which adds to the freshness.
It is nice, but I can buy that one all day long at TJ Maxx for $12.99. To me Chance Eau Vive is divine. In the end, i bought the eau fraiche and the No. I love the phases it goes trough, from juicy fruitiness, then the florals came out to play, and the soft woody veil it leaves.
The Eau Vive for me is at once simplistic and yet challenging. I don't like iris, but in this scent it doesn't bother me a bit. This perfume is not a showgirl in the window baring it all.It is sophisticated, elegant and sheer quality.
The collection is refreshed with new flacon form at the beginning of this year, so the fragrances can also be purchased as 35 ml now. On the wrist they last for 12 - 14 hours, overall reach twenty. Dry down is really nice and was my signature scent for a while.
Good for a casual weekend, after the gym, to go for coffee or to the office.
I agree with most reviewers on here that it's a sweet burst of energy with citrus top notes and very pleasant and fresh/ sweet cologne style , I like this on a hot day , I find it refreshing , sort of reminds me of an alcoholic drink , but unsure which one or if any in particular,. Out of all the Chanel Chance flankers hubby loves this one the most with second being Eau Fraiche. and that one is another crowd/compliment getter! To me, it is just Chance EDP with strong jasmine notes. which is always a difficult note for me, devouring all the other notes on my skin. just because its chanel? Since I live in a hot tropic, it's very rarely that I indulge in my YSL manifesto or Lancme la vie est belle. Happy sniffing!
Nice and citrusy but nothing special. 10 mins later, Chanel Chance the originalNothing more, nothing less. I agree with other reviews, sadly it's "generic", "bland", "nothing special", "zzzzzzzz", etc.
Eau Vive it combines the advantages of Eau Tendre and Eau Fraiche. Then, the citrus tones down a little and musk appears, still with happy white florals underneath.
It smells Crisp & Fresh with a beautiful floral.
Oh Chanel..you have disappointed me this time. Of course its very different from the Chanel classics, but its a valid modern offer of the brand. So yummy, blood orange, bit of florals, woods. This is a fabulous tonic for cold, crisp weather! This has citruses ( I love that blood orange), iris, vetiver and no vanilla, no patchouli. Very classy, fresh, sophisticated frag for warmer weather. Again my favourite perfumer behind this fragrance, so I knew I could not go too wrong with a blind buy. It helps if you are a citrus lover because this is definitely a scent for citrus lovers.
It shouldn't come as a surprise that this fragrance is quite similar to Chance Eau Frache, although they're not entirely the same. I'm quite to try one of the Chance fragrances but I'm not sure which one yet. Anyone? Good sillage n stays on long. Eau Vive Chance is my favorite out of all Chance.
Fresh, citrusy, green, wet, light florals, very clean. The grapefruit and blood orange decides they're tired and don't want to play in the sandbox anymore, so they walk home, and very quickly might I add. Most citrus fragrances don't have great lasting power that this lasts all day on me without having to be resprayed. I tend to get instant headaches from D&G Light Blue or anything really sharp. Much love Monsieur Polge ~ your place in history will last forever. The top notes are quite generic and disappointing, so I can understand the frustration, but you have to wait and let it bloom on your skin - it's really magical. I need this in my life it's so good. Soapy iris and grapefruit. It's uplifting, optimistic and has helped me to battle with Winter Blues. I love this smell, it is so discrete yet classy, fresh and adorable. When i finally bought it I couldn't stand it.
You can't not like it and it smells expensive. As Chanel Chance Eau Tendre smells something like the Original Daisy by Marc Jacobs this one also smells something like one of its flankers.
Sad to be late to that party! You might ask, wouldn't that just be Mademoiselle? Initially it is like big blast of generic citrus. It's slightly crisp/fresh, but not as fresh as Eau Fraiche or as dry as Chance.
The same happens with Chanel's Chance Eau Tendre EDT, but has never happened when using scents from the Coco Mademoiselle collection. I reserve Number 5 along with those for December or when I'm traveling to the hills or anywhere colder.
After the 3rd day I was wearing it I couldn't smell it as much and I think if they come up with a lotion or a body spray it will help the smell project more. Got this as a free sample from a Chanel order.
A good compliment getter that really shines in the winter. It's a lovely floral, maybe a bit too light for my tastes but very pleasant. Top notes are very very citrusy. It lasted through the stifling hot day, and the sillage was incredible. Better to me than Eau Tendre as it has more character for a more mature audience. For a Chanel?BOWLING? Something floral lingers in the background, but the citrus is covering everything. Or perhaps citruses just don't settle well on my skin. Smells like all the chances put together but much lighter. Yeah, this is hairspray to me.
tried a sample, wanted to love it soooo badly as I love the others in the Chance line. My friend on the other hand smells absolutely divine with clean perfumes. Perhaps one day I will find a Chanel that works well on my skin, but alas it is not this day. I sampled this in the store, did two sprays. Base notes of the composition mix vetiver, cedar and iris, leaving a fresh, gentle, elegant and subtle trail. It smells like a sweet fresh rose to my nose, but now looking at the notes there is no rose. It has a clean unisex feel that borders on masculine, and it stays fresh and clean throughout the day, which I love. 5 eau premiere. Once you spray it it's very fresh and awakening a nice true citrus scent. I wished Eau Tendre will work for me, when I put it it turns to a generic white floral and mediocre citrus that smells unisex. Online right now: 2,765, Fragrantica in your language: On my skin it disappears within minutes, not even an hour!!
The first Chanel I dislike. Opens with a sugary-sweet burst of what smells like orange to me initially. So strange how perfumes change like that. Tested this in store, oh my word what is happening to perfume houses? I love this! Although Eau Vive's citrus character supposed to be more fresh, sporty and active, to me it's addictive, classy and a hint of citric sweetness. I began to read all the negative reviews and got worried that I made a mistake. Why not just give it a new name?
I am afraid I have to agree exactly with foxy_princess. I have the Eau Tendre as well and I find both extremely good. Solid like. If only people weren't so ignorant and willing to compromise on lasting power to have a chanel perfume, we could all stop buying it and they wouldn't have a choice but to bring back the good quality stuff. 4 hours in and the original mandarin bomb has waned, and now it's almost reminiscent of orange bitters for cocktails. Sophisticated woody citrus, wetness doesn't live here, there's no hesperidic effervescence or water dynamism to my nose. Im having trouble thinking of words for this one. I would call this Chance Summer. The grapefruit does have some sourness and it does smell like sweat a little, but the good kind of salty sweat like youre laying on the beach in the hot sun. Or maybe only spray on clothes? I got several compliments while wearing this, which does not hurt.
As is the case with a lot of Chanel fragrances, when I first tested this I disliked it. There's just too much musk or something in it, and not enough of everything else.
I had CHANCE original for years before in my 30's, it was a fresh crispy fragrance that gets quite heavy but I loved it, I felt classy wearing it. Opens with huge citrusy fresh blast, which is absolutely gorgeous, but within seconds changes into a very woody-musky based perfume, nice but I'm not left blown away by this.
Thanks Chanel & Olivier for another delightful fragrance to make memories by. Most of my favorite and signature scents were created by the amazing Jacques Polge and happy to say Olivier's first Chanel scent was not a gourmand Patchouli bomb! I can't believe there's so many bad reviews and dislikes. This is definitely going to be my next purchase and I'm getting a 5 oz bottle of this..it's that good.
All in all it's Elegant to wear in the Spring/Summer like for a Wedding. Is it unique? I must say though that it is zesty and orangey, something that will wake you up but it is not compelling enough to make me puchase it. Sorry Eau Fraiche you have been dethroned by Eau Vive..lol.
A pleasant, daytime, non offensive scent. Meaning, that presumably Polge the son will not make a big splash with his debut creation for Chanel. It opens as a sharp, tangy citrus Jasmine fog. Olivier has stepped into his father's very large shoes and created this fresh & zesty scent. The fragrance does turn floral on the skin as well, some mixing of jasmine and iris, and then it's reminiscent of Eau Premiere.
I currently own and love the entire Chance Coco line.
its for someone with a vibrant , confident, full of life personality to match the scent. It breaks my heart to see such negative reviews about this fragrance. I sampled and bought it within an hour! It's fresh and elegant. Sparkly? It stays pretty much citrus from beginning to end with just hints of floral/woody notes. Love! He was the BEST! It's non-offensive and office friendly. Youthful, uplifting, fresh. Only the drydown is very reminiscent of the original chance edt/edp. I tested Eau Tendre (solid like, but similar to other perfumes), Eau fraiche (beautiful, but I have versense and they are in the same family) and Eau Vive. It is very innocent and unexciting (to me). It's so light and transparent.
The scent is nice citrus-y fresh but it does remind me too much of bathroom cleaner.
I can definitely detect the jasmine and cedar. Unfortunately I get a lot of vetiver which makes it a bit masculine on me but I'm trying to forget about it and enjoy it as a whole :). I have tried the wrong Chance perfume at the store, I wanted to test Eau Tendre to compare it with Marc Jacobs Daisy, but I end up picking Eau Vive instead. Chanel Chance is quite a hit and miss for me, with Eau tendre smelling like Daisy and this, like any (well balanced) air freshener.
the bitter paired with the floral just isnt for me. Something about it isexciting?
Too aquatic for my taste, a total NO for me. Another eBay score! They should really make the line, besides the original, into edps. Eau vive is modern, fresh, young and funny yet chic and bon ton in its own way. I thought I would love the citrus mix of grapefruit and lemon but I find this one to be over the top with the citrus and is becomes almost too sweet. I adore this perfume.
I love the beginning phases of Eau Vive with the refreshing citruses. Ohhhh Me and Chanel .Totally in love :) X. Ok so earlier I reviewed this, and at the time I figured it was a scent that was nice, but one that was so-so & I'd never buy the bottleI was wrong.
The dry down is smelling like Chance original without patchouli. Like many others said this was a pleasant surprise. It is smooth but I find it very musky, like all the other notes sort of hide or blend into the muskI found myself going back and forth in regards to whether I liked it or notHowever, this is probably due to the price point and the brand which is why I think it would make a good gift. The way Chanel does iris is just ahhhh and it is the common theme in many Chance flankers which I adore. When comparing this with the original Chance edp it has all of the citrus of chance so the DNA is there. I thought I might like it but I do not. It's my first Chance perfume, and it does not dissapoint! And it seems the saying has been proven right, at least for now.
