Any attempt to install either would cause the screws to be driven into the screen roller, effectively destroying it and making it non-functional. The screen slid down inside the door and I can't figure out how to get it outhelp! We are concerned that it will cost a small fortune to have a storm door custom built. The best thing to do is fix the door so it latches on it's own (adjust the strike plate, adjust the piston, etc). When I open the door to go outside, the door will swing open (with a gentle breeze!). It's works with a slight "hydraulic" feel, when I open the door now, there is resistance. When I asked if I could speak to a customer service rep "on shore" close to Wisconsin I was told that's not possible???? Was told by the installer that he doesn't cover wind damage. Rod is still stuck and will not retract. Any time there is anything more than a mild breeze, the door will be caught by the wind, damaging the closer. I would never buy this door again!!! Also needed a 7/64 drill bit to remove rivet. The process of utilizing the retaining clips to swap out the inserts became difficult and time-consuming.
My roll up screen lasted less than a year and started coming out of the track. This door is sand in color but was absolutely filthy. Our front door has an Emco storm door, but full-length glass is missing. it doesn't break very easily when it is yanked all the way, even by wind, even by a clumsy hulk, because that is it's designed function. Next step is to install a stop on the door frame or ground so the door cant possibly open past 90 deg. Most problems here seem to be install related. The other thing is that the handles aren't spring-loaded.
